The Primary Kata listed are all of the Heiwa-do traditon.  Primary Kata bearing names identical to that found in other styles are taught in the Heiwa-do tradition, unless otherwise noted.   Kata on this list marked with an asterisk (*) are of the Shito-ryu tradition and are taught in order to afford the student a broader range of knowledge.  Kata belonging to the Shotokan tradition are also taught, and if listed will be marked with this symbol (^).

Ippon kumite is no replacement for sparring, just as sparring can never really substitute for real conflict.
The true purpose of ippon kumite is to focus the mind & body and to cultivate offensive & defensive abilities in a controlled cooperative manner.
